What is dog microchipping ?
Dog microchipping is a procedure done on dogs to find them in case they get lost.Microchips can be implanted by a veterinarian or at a shelter. After checking that the animal does not already have a chip, the vet or technician injects the chip with a syringe and records the chip's unique ID.

Why anyone should microchip their dog ?
1.A microchipped dog can be easily identified
If your dog is found by a shelter or veterinary office in possession of a scanner this dog can be easily identified and returned to their owner . There are so much stories of dog lost out there , and would be so bad to lose your pup for this reason.2.It is a really cheap procedure
Microchipping your dog only costs around $25 to $50, depending on your vet.3. Easy surgery

The chip’s only as big as a grain of rice, so the cut is very small and heals very fast. It’s usually implanted in the scruff of your dog’s neck and doesn’t cause any pain for your pet.
4.A pet door that recognizes your dog’s chip
This is going to be amazing experience . Not every dog can enter at your home or any kind of uninvited animal
5. A microchip is never lost
Tags are often lost when dogs are lost. This is not going to happen with the microchip. What do you think about this procedure ? Is this useful for you ?
I think microchips are vitally important! A couple things I would add as "sidenotes":
ReplyDelete1) Still put a collar on your dog, even if you have a microchip. This increases the chances that your dog will make it home, often without needing to go to a vet or shelter to scan the microchip.
2) Not all shelters scan microchips upon a dogs arrival - or ever. Not all scanners will be compatible with your chip, especially if you move. If you lose your dog, make sure you check with every shelter in a 50 mile radius every day, pass out flyers locally and to shelters, etc.
3) Read the fine print with the microchip you receive, and anything they send you. Some microchip companies will try to sell you subscriptions to additional services - they are not mandatory, the company will still keep your information on file without subscribing to these add-on services. Only spend the money if they are services that are useful to you.
Great post! Microchips can be very helpful when used correctly. Some people do not update their information with the chip company which makes it useless though. I did see a microchip fall out two times, so sometimes it might be good to check and make sure it's still there when you go to the vet.
ReplyDeleteWe have ours checked once a year to make sure 1/ we know where it is and 2/ it is working correctly.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly
Love the doggie door that works on a micro chip...... - wonder if it can be programmed for more than one dog?
ReplyDeleteWe agree. Microchipping is vital if you want to be reunited with your furry friend if you ever become separated. Love the photo of the Dox in the DT bandanna!
ReplyDeleteLots of Woofs from Earl and I at Earl's World!
Katie and I each have two chips, European and USA, they are in different locations too. Bailie just has the US one. Chipping is so important. It is easy and not real expensive, so why would you not do it? Hopefully we will never need them but just in case, we have them.
ReplyDeleteit is a good idea,xx
ReplyDeletegreat post! Thankfully, Dakota was microchipped when we got him. I need to have Cody microchipped but have yet to do it!
ReplyDeletePet microchip is a crucial thing for your pet if you want to be reunited with them when they get lost. Great post and photos by the way! Thanks.
